How time flies when you?re having fun...and even sometimes when it isn?t all that much fun! It just seems like yesterday that I was writing about beginning our sixth year of ?Mission Fiesta News? and here I am working on the first issue of our seventh year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! So many things happened in the past year--some good, some not so good. As we start 2008, we have unlimited potential as to how we will use our time and resources. While we can?t do anything to change what has happened in the past, we do have some limited control of how we will utilize and influence the present and the future. Let?s all try to make a conscious effort to live every day to its fullest to serve God and to reach-out to those around us who need a helping hand. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something! Take a look around, then take action to make a difference. Not only will you get a warm feeling inside, but God will be pleased with your actions. "The King will reply, 'What I'm about to tell you is true. Dan Ross, editor February is ?Sponsor a Birthday Card? Month We are asking people to sponsor birthday cards for our Guatemalan children during the month of February. This will enable us to get that part of the of mission completed early and will also give us an early tally on the number of cards we will have to distribute in June 2008. Below is the NEW birthday card policy for Mission Fiesta. New Birthday Card Policy for Mission Fiesta 2008: Due to changes and restrictions in airline guidelines on weight limits and the number of suitcases allowed per person, we have found it necessary to change our policy for birthday cards. The new policy is that you will still be able to sponsor a card and include a $2 gift for each sponsorship, but you should NOT buy cards. Instead, sponsors will be asked to sign a label that will be provided for them. This label will be affixed to a newly formatted card that we will have printed after we arrive in Guatemala. This new type of card will be age appropriate and will include a scripture reference, a message for the recipient, and an activity (puzzle, coloring sheet). You might be surprised how much the cards weigh and the amount of suitcase space they require. This will help tremendously since we needed about 2,000 cards last year. 1. Have $2 for each card you will sponsor... please do NOT buy cards. 2. Sign a label, which will be provided for you. 3. Return money and labels to Mission Fiesta. A Word from Our Director PSALM 51:10 ? 12 ?Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.? Create a clean heart, renew a right spirit and restore joy, all sound like great ways to begin a new year. These are definitely things that we as Christians need and want in a our lives. We can strive, we can follow a 5-step plan and we can ask others to pray for us but we cannot attain any of these through our own strength. We do not have the ability to bring these about in our lives, even though we know we need them. Only God can give these and make them possible for us. God alone can create a clean heart for us and renew a right spirit within us. He will also restore the joy of our salvation. We must have a willing spirit which allows God to show us the things that have produced an unclean heart and an unrighteous spirit. He will show us and lead us to make the necessary changes. We can rely on His promises, He will not cast us from His presence and He will not take the Holy Spirit from us. Yes, we must be willing and we must be lead but it is God who does the creating, renewing and restoring. You will have a clean heart, a renewed spirit and the joy of your salvation will be restored. The Mission Fiesta team is in full swing making final plans for our June 2008 trip, tentatively set for June 5-25. We are in the process of contacting the agencies with whom we work in order to assemble a schedule. We have checked on airfare--which is changing constantly--and plan to order our tickets soon. If you are thinking about being a volunteer for 2008, you don?t have much time left to decide. Be in prayer and make your decision soon. If your answer is yes, then fill-out a volunteer application from our website at www.mfiesta.org and get it returned to Gary ASAP. We are asking for your prayer support, both now during preparations and throughout the entire trip. Please pray that our budget will be met, our personal finances will be secured, plans and schedules will develop smoothly, that we will all remain healthy, that our spring meeting will be productive, and that God?s will be done in all that occurs. Spring Conference Mission Fiesta?s Spring Conference will be March 5-7 at Twin Falls in Mullens, WV. During this time, we will be finalizing arrangements for our mission trip. Recent studies show that rural women in Guatemala work, as a part of a family unit, as much as 18 hours a day without compensation, bearing the greatest burden of the country's poverty. Box 435 Lucasville, OH 45648 Family Easter Page Palm Sunday: The last Sunday of the Lent is known as the Palm Sunday. This is when Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem where he was greeted warmly by the crowd. In the words of St Matthew: Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" Maundy Thursday: The Thursday of the Holy Week is associated with the Last Supper. The day is known as Maundy Thursday, or, Holy Thursday. It is the day before crucifixion. On this day Jesus had his supper, his last course, with his disciples. In the words of St Matthew: ...Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it , and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying," Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." Good Friday: The Friday of the week is the Good Friday. This is the day on which Jesus was crucified outside the walls of Jerusalem, at the top of the Calvary hill. And the Christian belief says that Jesus sacrificed himself for the men's sins, to be died crucified. Easter: Easter Sunday is the day of the feast. This day, the third since crucifixion, the Christ is believed to have shown up himself. And not just that, Jesus also joined his disciples on a meal! Easter comes at the end of the six days of the Holy Week which came to be associated with the life of Jesus before the Resurrection. This is when Christ is believed to show himself up after his death through crucifixion. He had risen up from his tomb that was guarded by the sentries. And met his disciples to get them prepared to carry out his works in his absence. The Resurrection: Things turned different on the early morning of the Sunday, the third day since Jesus was crucified. There was a great uproar and the guards of the tomb were all struck by lightning. for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His face shining like lightning and his garments white as snow. At this sight, the soldiers trembled with fear and remained as dead men. When they came to their senses there was no point in watching over an empty tomb any longer.
